Comparison Between the stories of The Postmaster and The Kabuliwala
Characteristics of the Postmaster:
The Postmaster, from the story
‘The Postmaster’, was from Kolkata however, he was posted at Ulapur a tiny
village. He was city-bred. He was calm and listened to others patiently. During
the story he came across a girl named Ratan.
Characteristics of the Kabuliwala:
The Kabuliwala, from the story
‘The Kabuliwala’, was a tall Afghan from Kabul. He always had a bag on his back.
He too was calm and listened to others patiently, like the Postmaster. During
the story he came across a girl named Mini.
Similarities between both the
stories:
Firstly, in the story The Postmaster,
a man was working away from his home similarly, in the story ‘The Kabuliwala’
the man was working away from his home. Secondly, they both had families that
they missed a lot. Thirdly, they both came across young girls whom they cared
about.
Differences between both the
stories:
In the story ‘The Postmaster’, his family consisted of mother, father and sister while in the story, ‘The Kabuliwala’ his family consisted of his wife and daughter. The Postmaster was from Kolkata while the Kabuliwala was from Kabul. The Postmaster came across a calm, caring and emotional girl while in the story ‘The Kabuliwala’ he came across a talkative and impatient girl.
These stories are beautifully expressed by Rabindranath Tagore in the stories of ‘The Postmaster’ and ‘The Kabuliwala’.
